Analysis in thyroid functions and blood lipid levels in elderly patients with subclinical hypothyroidism complicated with cerebral infarction

  •   Objective  To analyze thyroid functions and blood lipid levels in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism and cerebral infarction aged more than 60 years.
      Methods  A total of 84 patients with subclinical hypothyroidism over 60 years old were included in combined group, 84 patients with subclinical hypothyroidism and cerebral infarction over 60 years old were included in hypothyroidism group, 84 patients with cerebral infarction over 60 years old were included in cerebral infarction group, and 84 healthy elderly people over 60 years old who underwent routine physical examination at the same time were included in healthy group. Level of thyroid function indexes [thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), three free iodine thyroid former glycine (FT3) and free thyroxine (FT4)] and blood lipids indexes [triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C)] of four groups were compared.
      Results  The levels of TSH in combined group and hypothyroidism group were higher than those in cerebral infarction group and healthy group (P < 0.05). The levels of TG, TC and LDL-C in the combined group, hypothyroidism group and cerebral infarction group were higher than those in the healthy group, the levels of TG, TC and LDL-C in the combined group and hypothyroidism group were higher than those in the cerebral infarction group, the levels of TG, TC and LDL-C in the combined group were higher than those in the hypothyroidism group (P < 0.05).
      Conclusion  The thyroid functions and blood lipid levels of patients over 60 years old with subclinical hypothyroidism complicated with cerebral infarction are obviously abnormal. Therefore, attention should be paid to their changes and treatment should be given in time.
